BEST SELLER: Krampus Greetings

By

BEST SELLER:  Krampus Greetings I haven't written an article in sometime;  I have been busy with work, getting stuff ready for the launch of my website in March, and getting sick fairly often!  I wanted to write about one of my best sellers since the Magpie Designs days before it was introduced to the Prismatic Skies website .  Krampus Greetings ! I have always had an odd fascination about this whole Krampus lore.  I'm not German, so it's not something that I grew up with.  I grew up having German friends and I don't remember whose house it was and how exactly I came across an image, but it was at a friend's house during Christmas time and I legit thought they had Satan mixed in with all this Catholic stuff and Christmas galore.  I have no problem with Satan, Satanists, and Satanism, BTW.  I'm all for it.  Whatever floats your nads. From that moment on though, about the age of maybe 10 or 11 years old, I was sold on the dude...without...

CREATIVE PROCESS: Taxidermy Moth (12.5.2023)

Join Me In A Taxidermy Adventure! Hello Everyone, It's Vanessa from Prismatic Skies and today we are going to get into taxidermy with a Tosena Albata Cicada.  This taxidermy piece will be available on my website once it goes live in March of 2024!!! What to expect from this blog post This post will be getting into how I have created this taxidermy piece as well as educational information about the Tosena Albata Cicada and taxidermy laws. In the video I kept calling the insect a moth, and it's not a moth, so I do apologize for that.  I had another taxidermy piece in my head while doing this and I was getting the two mixed up, I apologize.  This isn't the one that I found in my yard though, like I did with the moth that I kept referencing in the videos.  LOL, I guess that's what I guess for juggling a million things at once, haha. Tosena Albata Cicada What Is A Tosena Albata Cicada The Tosena Albata is a cicada species from Southeast Asia and in the past, has...

Turquoise & Orange Resin Ghost Lamps

The Turquoise & Orange Resin Ghost Lamps Hey Everyone!!! Vanessa here!  Just wanted to tell you a little bit about the resin ghost lamps that I am making.  Started these today.  Never made them before.  They're super cute so far, and I am hoping, and thinking they will be, these come out great. The Resin Ghost Lamps I didn't want to do traditional colors completely, but I also really wanted to do orange, because ghosts are typically done in white, clear, and silver.  I am planning on doing a bunch of different colors for more resin ghost lamps. I used Let's Resin turquoise color, and it's more on the green side of turquoise, rather than the balanced green & blue that turquoise typically is. I really like it as of now, but I am curious how it will cure. I'm coming up with some ideas for other ghost lamps that I want to do.  I want to play around with it. Let's Resin Orange & Turquoise Alcohol Inks The ghosts are fairly small.  Maybe t...

Girl’s Not Grey Creative Process Video

The Girl's Not Grey Anatomical Heart Shaped Wax Melts Creative Process Video I have made a quick video to show you folks part of the creative process that I go through in creating wax melts.  It's not the best video...it's quite frankly my very first video that I have made and edited.  I have a lot to learn but I think I did rather well for it being my first time. I don't want to give too much away of how I create everything mainly because the fragrances that I have are my own custom made blends and I use a variety of different manufacturers, and have worked too hard to share that side of my creative process, but I'm open to showing more when the time comes.  Just certain things will not be shared. What Does The Girl's Not Grey Wax Melts Smell Like? Well, the scent notes are some things that I have never worked with before and was a bit hesitant at first because of what I wanted to mix them with.  I'm the type to think of something random and then I just g...

SOLD OUT: Magpie Treasures Candle in Hobnail Milk Glass

By

MAGPIE TREASURES CANDLE:  Lemon Scented Candle In Vintage Hobnail Milk Glass Candy Bowl w/Lid I have been making Magpie Treasures Candles since December 2020.  Magpie Treasures Candles are handmade candles that I have created in (typically) vintage, rare, hard-to-find (not always - and they're usually more expensive) glassware. The glassware are typically mugs, cups, bowls, compotes, candy bowls, and the like.  The candles are made from a soy and paraffin wax blend and the fragrances are of my own creation/custom blend fragrances. I do not remember where I got this beautiful piece from, I think I bought it at a Savers here in New Hampshire . I wasn't always the greatest at making candles , but through A LOT of trial and error over the years, I have definitely gotten waaaaaaay better and the pieces have become much more beautiful, along with the fun treasures inside the candle . This beautiful candle was made in a fresh lemon scent that was made with fragranc...

Vanessa Theodore | Prismatic Skies Update for August 5, 2024 Been super busy lately but I do have some updates for everyone!!!  I have been creating tirelessly for the releases coming out for Halloween 2024.  I will have some new blends coming out for the September 1, 2024 release of the Etsy shop, but a lot of my creations have been geared towards the Halloween release. I do have some new oils for the Christmas and Chanukah holidays.  I am also bringing back some of my, "winter," Best Sellers. So what's been going on? HALLOWEEN GIFTSET BOX #1 : The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a new blend that I created that will be coming out Halloween 2024.  It will first be released as a LIMITED EDITION SPECIAL GIFTSET BOX .  The wax melt itself is considered to be a mini wax melt loaf because of its size.  It is in the shape of Texas.  Measurements will be available on the Etsy listing. What’s in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Giftset Box : The Texas Chainsaw M...

Resin Inspiration: December 4, 2023

Resin Inspiration at Prismatic Skies: December 4, 2023 I’ve been getting inspiration a lot lately by watching unique resin artists videos and want to challenge myself and make a diorama. What do my first diorama be of?  Fantasy?  Dragons? Unicorns? Mermaids?  Woods?  Nautical?  Christmas? Tell me your ideas & I’ll challenge myself to make it! Just Remember, It Has To Be In Resin… Not everything can go in resin for a variety of reasons;  insects can go in resin but depending on the taxidermied insect and how delicate it is because resin can burn some materials.  Real flowers and faux flowers can go in resin.  Real flowers should be dried out first.  Fresh can go in but there will be more likelihood of bubbles, also, the color WILL fade out in resin.  Faux can give bubbles to but they can go in there.  Would be best to get a machine that gets rid of the bubbles - like a vacuum degassing chamber.  Candy can go in, so c...

A.F.I. " Girl's Not Grey " Music Video THE FIRST OFFICIAL WAX MELT OF PRISMATIC SKIES!!!! The first official wax melt for Prismatic Skies is called, " Girl's Not Grey ."  It is a dedication melt to the band, A.F.I. (A Fire Inside).  Check out the music video and song above!!! Some of you may be aware that I have made TONS of dedication / inspired by wax melts when Magpie Designs was in business, before having to shut it down due to health reasons. So I wanted to start Prismatic Skies off that way, and thought what a perfect way to pay homage to my favorite A.F.I. song ! Girl's Not Grey Anatomical Heart Shaped Wax Melt The, " Girl's Not Grey ," wax melt is made from soy and paraffin wax blend and is decorated with candle dye, mica powder, and glitter. I saw the molds at a craft store when they had their Halloween decorations out and I just about lost my shit because it's an awesome mold, and the hearts are about the size of my han...
